Hello All,

Whenever I turn on the Air or Defrost my minivan overheats. I can run just fine in town or on the highway if I don't turn on the Air or defrost. Any ideas on what could cause this?

Does it still run warmer than usual, even when you have the Air or Defrost OFF?

Here's a couple things you can easily check to try and troubleshoot:

Does the radiator fan kick on when the car warms up?
Are there any noticeable leaks?
Does the radiator get warm?
Is there anything blocking the radiator?
Is there the smell of coolent/antifreeze when you turn on the defrost?
How is the coolant/antifreeze level in the reservoir?
Does the AC still work good when all this happens?
Does the defrost work OK?
Check the oil dipstick, see if the oil looks watery and also smell it to see if you can pick up the scent of coolant in there. Also look for a nasty white residue that could form on the dipstick.

I did a quick search and I found this interesting thread:

Check it out...this fan relay or what's causing the relay to go might be the problem. However, if you come back to me with answers to these questions it will help narrow down the problem.

Also, be very careful when working around the radiator fan when the engine is running it could kick in at any time...if it's working!
