|
|
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus I just bought used. The day after I bought it I got a check engine light while driving...nothing noticeable happen to the car, and it still starts and runs great.
Checked the owners manual and it says that it has to do with the emissions system, so I wasn't really concerned. I took it to Checker and they scanned and cleared the code in case it was intermittent. The code was P0401 EGR Insufficient Flow. While driving later that day the Check Engine light came back on...I'm assuming it's the same code.
Has anyone had this with a 2001 Ford Taurus and what was the cause?
How do you fix it? |

The odds of it being the DPFE Sensor for the Exhaust Gas Return system are highly likely. These Ford engines are infamous for this. This ARTICLE explains the system very well and the reason why the sensor is because of the following: water. The sensor directly measures the pressure of exhaust gas across the EGR line. Exhaust gas contains mostly water vapor and this water vapor corrodes the DPFE Sensor in time.
It's a very bad design on Fords part but very easy and cheap ($30-40) to fix yourself.
Just follow the article directions to see if it's the DPFE Sensor, the EGR Valve, the vacuum solenoid, or the various intake orifices this ARTICLE talks about. |
