Anyone else out there have a 4 cyl honda accord? I have a 1995 model with the v-tec 4 cylinder. I plan to get 500,000 miles out of it. It is well on the way with 158,000, and running strong. I do all of the work myself, and the car is in a great state of tune. The issue is a vibration at idle. I think it is probably the engine mounts, as the car did spend some winters up north. The engine will idle at 400 RPM with the IAC disconnected, and the A/C compressor barely affects the idle speed when it kicks on. Compressions are all strong, and there are no external vacuum leaks. I would just replace th mounts, but the rear one has a vacuum circuit to change the fluid properties at idle, and the aftermarket ones do not have this feature. Obviously, Honda is very proud of this part. So I have done nothing as of yet.

Is the vibration felt throughout the whole car or just certain components, such as the steering wheel?
Does the vibration go away at different RPMs?

You might have seen this video, but does your engine do this when you stop on the gas? (test it out with a friend watching)

Vibration is throughout the whole car. Only at Idle. I have not run the car on a dyno, but I have rocked the engine, and it doesn't seem too "loose"

What's your opinion of the motor mounts upon a visual inspection?
Her they rubber or hydraulic?
Can you get a OEM rear mount separate from the other mount(s) that has the exact same feature?
I know how you probably feel about going to a service center, if you say you do your own work, but if you find a good mechanic, they will help you troubleshoot without charge. Just try calling them if you can't figure it out.

I would do the little test in the movie, because you don't have the strength to move an engine around to test the mounts. Put your parking break on (use a little discretion as to the safety of this procedure, you probably should NOT have people standing in front or rear of the car, and make sure your parking brake works), because you need to put a load on the engine to simulate a dyno. Then just put it in gear/drive and try accelerating against the parking brake...look for any shift in the engine as it's loaded.

Let me know the results!

If these engine mounts were on an airplane, I'd have replaced them about 5 annuals ago.... They're cracked. The rear one with the idle circuit on it definately does something, though. I've disconnected the vacuum line, and the vibration gets worse. The reason that I think it is the engine mounts is this: The exhaust (all stock) will contact the chassis of the car if it is driven in reverse under a load (uphill). The first time I heard this, it freaked me out. This situation has been getting more common. There are no broken exhaust hangers that I can find.

Yep...sounds like the engine mounts! Can you get an OEM rear mount?
