You want to one piece so it butts right up to the wall, then cut the other piece at 1/2 the angle of the inside corner. (ex. 90 = 45 deg cut). The cut will reveal the pattern that one must cut in order to join to the other board.
Now...how you cut the edge of said board such an intricate patten depends on the material. For soft wood you can easily and finely get away with a hand coping saw. For harder materials, such as oak or maple, you need to power tool that can navigate such detail. I would recommend a good jigsaw. Also, there are several coping jigs that one can use with a jigsaw or Rotozip, to provide detailed work.
