The last step in my living room has a curved corner on it. I just refinished my oak hardwood floors and in the process of installing 3/4" oak quarter round trim, and I need to form in around this corner. I'll try to post a picture of it, but it's about a 7" radius.
How would I bend the trim to form it around the corner?
I was thinking of cutting slits in the back of the trim, soaking it in water, and then bending it. I would stain and finish it once it's in place. |

What you want to do won't work with a piece of oak quarter round trim.
In order to get oak to bend at that radius it has to be 1/8" thick at the most. To finish trim the corner of your step, I would fabricate a trim piece out of 1/8" thick pieces laminated together (6-8 of them to make it as thick or slightly thicker than the quarter rounds). Prior to letting the glue dry between the laminated pieces bend them to the radius you want. You might have to make a jig the same radius as the step to form your trim to. Once the glue has dried I would route the top edge with a route of your choice to make it look good. Sand, stain, and finish. Then tack it in place.
there are other option available to do this corner, you just have to be creative. But you certainly can't bend 3/4" oak quarter round trim! |
