Does anyone know a simple way of calculating the length of a roof gable at eh the roofline?

The width of the gable is about 25' and the height is about 15'.

You can use simple trig to figure this out! (A squared + B squared = C squared).

In your case it's:
15 squared + 12.5 (1/2 of 25) squared = gable length squared
gable length = the square root of (15 squared + 12.5 squared)
gable length at roof line= 19.525'

That is a good formula for calculating the exact length of a roof gable. So the gable length squared is equal to the fifteen squared.
