|
|
I love using those dishwashing sponges that have the scouring pad on one side, they make washing pots and pans easy! However, after a couple of days, they start smelling funny.
Anyone know why they smell, and/or how to get rid of it without throwing it away? |

Got the answer in another forum, and thought I would post it here to let other know. The smell is coming from bateria that is growing in the sponge after it sit wet for an extended period of time. The best way ti prevent it is to ring the sponge out really good after each use. However, if your sponge still smells funny, then try on eof these remedies:
- Throw the sponje in the top rack of the dishwasher during one of you loads.
- Microwave the damp sponge for about 2 minutes. This will only work if the there is no metal in the abrasive side of the sponge. The sponge gets hot and kills all the bacteria.

Cool trick!
Another, non-enviro friendly way would be to soak it in a water/bleach solution for a little while. |
