| How does one find the correct circuit breaker for a particular outlet, without guessing by turning off individual breakers? |

Other that going to the store to purchase it, the easiest way is buy a circuit breaker sensor such as the Hi-Tech Circuit Detective, Circuit Breaker Identifier. Though they cost about $45-$50.
A free way is to guess, but use an educated guess. Plug in a radio, into that outlet (or light socket if you have an adpater) and go down the breaker panel to see which one turns off the radio. You can eliminate some of the breakers (2-pole breakers), because a outlet or light socket will be a single pole breaker (110V). This is the free, but not so easy way.
Write down what breaker that particular outlet or light socket is on, so you don't have to do this again for this one. One trick I use for outlets is to write the breaker number on the back of the face plate.
HOWEVER, ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE OUTLET OR SOCKET WITH A CIRCUIT TESTER OR VOLTMETER!!! |

If you have young children then you probably have a baby monitor! Plug the baby monitor transmitter into the outlet or light socket (with a screw in adapter) and then plug the receiver/speaker in next to your breaker panel. To find the correct breaker just turn them off until you hear the monitor start sweeling. This means that the reciever lost the signal from the transmitter, which means the transmitter lost power!
Happy breaker hunting!
