Is it possible to flush your transmission without any special tools? I have always worked on my own vehicles and would prefer to do this myself. I have changed the fluid before, but I know that just changing it like engine oil doesn't get all the old transmission fluid out.

Is this a DIY project? If so, how do you do it?

You usually can! Cool

It typically involves removing the return line from the transmission fluid cooler and letting the old fluid drain out of this line into a waste container of some sort, a couple quarts at a time, while you refill with new fluid, a couple quarts at a time. Once the return line fluid is new fluid, then all the fluid has been replaced.

Your vehicle may require a very different technique. Most Haynes or Chilton repair books for your type vehicle will show a similar technique.

I did a quick search for my vehicle in the web, and easily found a technique for flushing my AT. You can do the same by going to Search>Google Powered! in the menu bar above. A small google dialog box will pop-up allowing a google search.
