Was wondering if you ever need to do any maintenance on your gas meter outside, or does the gas company take care of that?

There is no special maintenance that is required for your natural gas meter. Really the only thing you need to do is keep it free of ice and snow. In particular, you need to keep the regulator free of ice and snow.

The regulator is that flying saucer looking thing attached to the meter. If certain parts of the regulator get covered up up with ice or snow, it can't sense the ambient air pressure, and therefore your gas may not be metered correctly into your home or be shut off completely!
