I was changing my oil today and went to remove the oil cap and it kept slipping. It's the newer plastic oil cap that is designed to slip when it hits a certain tightness, such as the new gas caps. However, I'm trying to remove the cap, and it shouldn't be slipping but it is.

Does anyone know how to remove the oil cap in this situation, or how it fix the cap once I get it off? Do I need a new oil cap? Confused

I ended up calling the dealer service center to see if they have ever run into this problem when they do oil changes, and found that they do all the time. Evidently if the car has been running a bit the oil cap heats up and plastic teeth in the cap strip out because the plastic becomes more pliable.

The fix is the either let the engine cool down before removing the cap, or you can pop the top portion of the cap off and use channel lock pliers to remove the bottom portion. I've attached some photos below to show the cap and how I removed it!
