I've used mostly teflon tape in the past, but have always seen references to pipe dope in plumbing directions. I was wondering which does a better job, over time?
I've also started a poll to see which everyone prefers. |

| Always use Teflon tape on plastic male threaded fittings, water fitting that is, using pipe dope on this type of fitting will make the threads to slick causing you to over tighten, use Teflon tape and pipe dope together on all metallic threaded pipe and fitting, doing so will ensure a positive seal. |

Thanks Ron!
This seems like overkill, but I've been scoping the web and this seems to be the agreement amoung pros.
Another related question...I saw somewhere that using dope on plastic can chemically deteriorate the plastic in time, is there any truth to this?

| If the directions say not for use on plastic, then yes it is true. |
