I have some rust stains on my kitchen countertop and was wondering what should be used to remove them. I have tried bleach (both chlorine and oxygen), and it has helped. However, there is still a little stain there.

You can use oxalic acid to remove any type of rust stain. Many commercial rust remover/cleaners have oxalic acid in them, and you can purchase it in a crystal/power form and mix it with water. For tuff stains you can make a paste with the power and let it sit in the stain. However, you need to test any solution on your surface before using it, to make sure its safe, especially color-safe. And always use the product per the manufacturer's instructions...IT IS ACID!

Use sodium hypochlorite. Active ingredient in products like "red out" and "rust out" for cleaning water softeners. Mix a small amount of water to dissolve it. Place a paper towel over the stain and saturate it with the solution. The stuff is fumey, so open a window or use a fan.
