| I have downspouts that are getting loose on the exterior of my home. What is the best way to secure them?

There are different kinds of straps or brackets out there; I would try and find something similar to what is already on the house. There are some that are hidden, some not. Attached is a picture of one on my house. It's an aluminum strap that I secured to the house with exterior wood screws, and I protected the screw hole in the siding by applying a littel caulk to the back of the strap where the screw went through.
You'll also notice that you can't see the head of the screws in the picture! You should be able to see I utilized a common folding technique of the strap, to concile the screw head. It make it a little more appealing!
Hope this helps!

Yes I did!
Thanks for the tip! I installed it exactly as shown in your picture...very professional looking. though it was hard to bend the strap to get it just like yours. How did you do it?

There are little stamped ridges on outside parts of strap, and there are gaps in those ridges. It's easiest to make your folds there. If you need a fold somewhere else on the strap (I do for this technique) then just take a flat head screw driver and make an indentation in the ridge on the outside, on both edges of the strap where you want the fold. When you fold the strap it will fold at it's weakest point...where you made the creases/indentations!

Thanks for the tip. I have another problem with my downspouts. The "J" at the bottom seems to come off a few of my downspouts in heavy rains. Is there a better way to reattach it other than rivets?

I've added bricks to support it from the bottom, just an idea, if you decide not to use rivets again or maybe screw it.. Good luck!! There's a million ways to skin a cat!!!
