So I changed the batteries in my smoke detectors and initially was afraid I screwed something up because it was blinking red... went on to BRK electronics website (www.brkelectronics.com) and found the owner's manual... blinking red is good... not very intuitive, but it's right. Most of the batteries still tested good after one year's use, mine are AC powered, battery backup. So I'll hang on to them just in case I ever need a 9-volt battery in an emergency.

Good to know BRK thinks red is good! Not really ergonomically correct, since most would associate red with bad.
