I have friends that have stains coming through vinyl flooring that is in a bathroom in their basement. Does anyone know what is causing this? The flooring is fairly new and I;ve never seen this before. Is this a defect? |

If it's in the basement, it's probably mold underneath the vinyl.
I would rip up the vinyl and clean the mold with a bleach/water solution, let it dry , then clean it with a bleach/water solution again. Then you need to determine what was causing the mold!
Mold needs food (wood, dirt), moister, and oxygen. You need to eliminate all of these, especially the moister. If the vinyl was installed over concrete, the moister could be coming up throughout the concrete. You can check this by cutting a 1' square piece of plastic sheeting and taping it to a dry floor on all four sides. If moister builds up inside the plastic then it's coming up through the concrete.
If this is the case I would tile the floor, and avoid vinyl. |

| If you still want to go with vinyl you can tear the old stuff up, thoroughly clean and bleach the concrete, then seal the concrete with a concrete floor paint. Make sure the paint has a mildewside in it. If it doesn't, you can purchase a mildewside additive for the paint. After the paint if fully cured, lay your new vinyl flooring. |

Cabinets using glass doors sometimes use glass shelves and interior lighting from the top of a cabinet. A glass shelf allows light to reach throughout a cabinet. For a special display effect, the interior rear of a cabinet may be covered with a mirrors to further distribute light.
